Youth Bowhunt
Every fall the JGCAP provides opportunities for youth who do not otherwise have the chance to bowhunt with the program. During the Youth Bowhunt, the JGCAP focuses on developing life skills in youth such as integrity, responsibility, willingness to serve and fostering the idea that success for one is success for all.
The JGCAP also provides equipment for those who cannot afford to purchase their own. Youth from non-hunting families who are not willing to invest or those from low income backgrounds can use the JGCAP equipment to become proficient during their summer training and to use during the Youth Bowhunt. The equipment is also used for our After-School Winter and Spring Archery Leagues.
In order for youth to bowhunt with the JGCAP, they have to complete the Youth Bowhunter's Bootcamp (receive NBEF Certification), pass a shooting proficiency test with their archery equipment and provide 4 - eight hour days of service to the landowners who allow us to hunt on their property. In this way, JGCAP is ensuring that the next generation of bowhunters is safe, competent, skilled and willing to serve the characteristics all bowhunters should exemplify.
Once the prerequisites for hunmting are met, each youth bowhunter recieves two full weekends of bowhunting. The two sights where we bowhunt have no running water, no electricity and outhouses. This is the first time without these conveniences for many of these young hunters. New hunters are partnered with a mentor for the weekend who guides them to their stands. Time away from the treestands is spent telling stories, stump shooting and organizing the camp.
